Former Wisconsin football legend Russell Wilson could be on the move this offseason.
Following a productive 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback is slated to visit the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants this week on Thursday and Friday, respectively. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The news isn’t much of a surprise considering the numerous quarterback moves across the NFL over the last few days. Of note, the Las Vegas Raiders traded for Seahawks‘ starter Geno Smith, the Seahawks then signed former Vikings‘ QB Sam Darnold to a three-year contract, the Indianapolis Colts signed Daniel Jones to a one-year deal and, most importantly, the New York Jets agreed to a two-year, $40 million dollar contract with former Steelers backup Justin Fields.
Fields’ move to New York is the most substantial move when considering Wilson’s future in Pittsburgh. The former Ohio State Buckeye and Chicago Bear started the Steelers’ first four games in 2024 before being relegated to a backup role behind Wilson, who accumulated a 6-6 record in Pittsburgh’s final 12 games of the season.
Wilson is currently a free agent, so he doesn’t have any inside track at the Steelers’ starting job. But veteran Aaron Rodgers is arguably the only other viable option at this stage of the free agent process. As more and more signal-callers sign, the likelihood of Wilson’s return to Pittsburgh increases.
Still, Wilson appears to be exhausting all possible options with the mentioned free-agent visits.

Both the Browns and Giants are without a clear-cut quarterback option as of March 13. Wilson could provide some temporary stability. In 11 regular season games in 2024, the veteran tallied 2,482 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions to help the Steelers clinch a playoff berth.
Wilson then registered 270 passing yards and a pair of passing touchdowns in Pittsburgh’s lone playoff game — a 28-14 defeat in Baltimore. His performance throughout a bulk of the season certainly reminded suitors of what he can accomplish on the field. New York and Cleveland have clearly taken note.
Wilson’s free agency status is one to monitor over the coming days. If Rodgers elects to sign with Pittsburgh, Wilson will likely sign elsewhere.
