Women’s March Madness live updates, scores, bracket, highlights: Notre Dame dominates, will face Michigan next in NCAA tournament
- No. 4 Baylor was looking a bit more comfortable early in the third quarter against No. 13 Grand Canyon, but two quick scores by the Antelopes has cut the score back to 42-38 with 4 minutes left in the third quarter.
- As expected, South Carolina has been dominant against 16-seeded Tennessee Tech, holding a 33-point lead at halftime.
- Freshman guard Joyce Edwards leads the team with 14 points off the bench, but it’s been a true team effort for the Gamecocks. Eight players, including three on South Carolina’s bench, have put points on the board; the team is shooting 23-36 from the floor, including 7-of-10 on three-pointers.
- Notre Dame hit 100 points in its game earlier today; looks like South Carolina might be on track to do the same.
- The talent and size difference are starting to become evident as the third quarter comes to a close. The Antelopes just can’t seem to get a shot off on the perimeter or in the lane, and the Horned Frogs have a seemingly unstoppable two-woman game going between Madison Conner and Sedona Prince.
- It’s 52-37 at the end of the third quarter.
- Fifth-year point guard Georgia Amoore wasn’t pleased with Kentucky’s first-round performance in the minutes after escaping No. 13 seeded Liberty, 79-78. The Wildcats led by 17 to start the fourth quarter and played the final stretch without either of their bigs. Clara Strack and Teonni Key each fouled out.
- That’s concerning looking ahead to a second-round meeting with Kansas State, which advanced with ease in the return of efficient 6-foot-6 center Ayoke Lee (17 points, 10 rebounds). Kentucky needs Strack and Key on the floor to have a chance, and more guards need to help Amoore offensively to reach the Sweet 16.
- South Carolina is not holding back against Tennessee Tech, going up 48-18 with five minutes left in the first half. The Gamecocks, who have one of the deepest lineups in the country, already have 25 bench points, with freshman forward Joyce Edwards leading the team with 10 points.
- The Horned Frogs have settled into things in the third quarter and now have a 12-point lead. Madison Conner has 16 and Sedona Prince has 10.
- There’s just under 4 minutes left in the third.
- The Bears are leading after an interesting first half in Waco. The Antelopes certainly aren’t backing down in this one, but the Bears have a clear advantage on the boards.
- Aaronette Vonleh leads all scorers at the break with 11 points.
- No. 1 South Carolina has pulled to an early lead over No. 16 Tennessee Tech, going up 33-12 in the first quarter. The defending champs aren’t messing around in this first round, holding strong on both sides of the court against the Golden Eagles.
- No. 5 Kansas State kicked off its NCAA tournament with a dominant 85-41 win over No. 12 Fairfield. KSU grew the lead throughout the fourth quarter to get a whopping 44-point win, led by a 17-point double-double from Ayoka Lee, who returned to the lineup for the first time since Feb. 22, and 18 points from Serena Sundell.
- The Wildcats outscored the Stags 29-6 in the third quarter, and continued to build on that lead through the fourth quarter.
- Kansas State will now face No. 4 seed Kentucky, who narrowly defeated No. 13 Liberty earlier on Friday, in the second round.
- Meanwhile, No. 4 Baylor is struggling a bit in the second quarter of its matchup with No. 13 Grand Canyon. The Antelopes and Bears are locked at 25 with just over 3 minutes left until the halftime break.
- That was surely a bit closer of a first two quarters than TCU coach Mark Campbell would’ve liked, but the Horned Frogs ended the second with a 9-2 run to create a bit of a cushion.
- TCU’s Madison Conner leads all scorers with 13 points at the break.
- We’re under the 4-minute mark in the second quarter and No. 15 Fairleigh Dickinson is hanging around with No. 2 TCU.
- Sedona Prince and Hailey Van Lith both have 2 early fouls in the game, so the Horned Frogs will likely be without their two best players to close out the half.
- Near the end of the third quarter, Kansas State is quickly taking care of Fairfield, leading the Stags 61-31. Wildcats center Ayoka Lee leads the team with a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double, with plenty of game remaining to grow that lead.
- No. 4 Baylor is also in action against No. 13 Grand Canyon. The Antelopes have only lost twice this season — to Middle Tennessee and Oregon — and have a slight lead on the Bears early in the game.
- Notre Dame starts its NCAA tournament run off strong, crushing Stephen F. Austin with a 54-point win.
- The Fighting Irish outscored the Ladyjacks 60-29 in the second half, dominating on the court even after taking off its starters. Sonia Citron and Hannah Hidalgo led Notre Dame with 24 points each, with Citron pitching in seven rebounds and Hidalgo adding six rebounds and five assists.
- Notre Dame will now face Michigan in the Round of 32 at home.
- With the game so well in hand, Notre Dame has taken its starters off the court, giving a few of its bench players a chance to score. The Fight Irish hit 100 points with three minutes remaining, soon after freshman walk-on Luci Jensen earned her first career points with the team.
- Olivia Miles, one of Notre Dame’s stars, went down in the fourth quarter after seemingly turning her ankle. Miles stayed down for a while with her teammates surrounding her before she was able to limp off the court on her own. She later headed back to the locker room, likely for further examination.
- Miles is not having a great night, scoring only two points and going 0-6 from the field. But, if the injury turns out to be more severe, it would be a major loss to the Fighting Irish going forward. The junior guard has been averaging 16.2 points per game this season and leads the team in assists.
- Stephen F. Austin is unable to stop Notre Dame from scoring, as the Fighting Irish pull away to a 78-41 lead at the end of the third quarter. Five Notre Dame players are in double digits on points, with guard Sonia Citron leading both teams with 20 points and seven rebounds.
- The Ladyjacks just don’t seem to have an answer for the collective Fighting Irish team, who are dominating on both ends of the court.
- After a rough first quarter, Fairfield managed to match Kansas State pound-for-pound in the second, with each team scoring 16 in that frame. Standout Kaety L’Amoreaux has led the way for Fairfield, while Kansas State’s Ayoka Lee leads all scorers with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
- Rebounds have helped make the difference for the Wildcats, which lead the Stags 21-11 in that category (10-2 offensively).
